A Giveaway

The other day I posted about my first "gluten free" dessert.  In one of the photos were these white, porcelain measuring spoons.  I received blog comments and personal emails regarding the spoons.  The spoons were the star of the post.  Don't get me wrong, I am glad you all loved the spoons, but the dessert was pretty fabulous as well!

Since the spoons were so well received I have decided to share them with all of you.  I am in love with these spoons!  I have tons of measuring/baking gear, but there is something about these spoons ( and their matching measuring cups ) that makes baking and cooking all the more special.  I am giving one set of spoons and a set of measuring cups to one lucky Urban Baker Follower!

Here is how to enter:

  • become a follower (maybe you already are) on my site.
  • leave me a comment telling me what your favorite cookie recipe is and where the inspiration came from
  • stop by my facebook page and "LIKE" The Urban Baker. you can leave me a comment there, as well as a second ( two comments per person )comment on this post letting me know you "liked" The Urban Baker on facebook

This Giveaway will be open from today, Friday, July 30th through Monday, August 2nd.  The contest will close on Monday at 11:00 p.m.

There will be an additional treat for the lucky winner!  Good luck.

A little nostalgia + a Giveaway!

Several weeks ago I posted about a favorite spoon and some ice cream (here).  I talked a little bit about one of my favorite childhood possessions; my Yogi Bear Spoon.

Last week, my friend Lisa and I, were having lunch at one of our new neighborhood haunts; SIX restaurant.  We ordered their artichoke pizza and their seasonal Cobb, dressing on the side.  The food arrived and I guess I put my head down for some reason or another and when I lifted my head up, there, in the side of balsamic vinaigrette, was a Huckleberry Hound spoon!  Just sitting there, waiting for me.  I was flabbergasted, confused, speechless, excited.  I looked at Lisa and she had this huge grin on her face.  I was so touched.  I said to her, "you had these spoons, too?"  And she responded by saying, "no, dummy...ebay!"  She read my blog post and was touched.  Now, I am touched.

Ebay, it never would have occurred to me to search ebay for a mate for Yogi Bear.  Since then, I have become quite the ebay addict.  I am looking for grain seed bags.  Other than the local flea markets, ebay is a great resource for stuff like that.

In honor of Lisa, ebay and a little piece of my childhood, I am giving away both a Vintage Huckleberry Hound and Vintage Yogi Bear spoon to one lucky winner.  This giveaway is for U.S. addresses, only.

To enter this special giveaway, simply leave a comment below (one entry per person) and write something nostalgic about your childhood.  I will pick the winner from Random.  The deadline for this contest is, Friday, May 14, 2010 at midnight PDT.  If you comment isn't linked to a blog where I can find you, please leave your email address.

Looking so forward to reading your stories!

A Giveaway for a Good Cause!

Recently, I walked into our neighborhood cake supply store, NY Cake West looking for a specific cookie cutter.  I didn't get the cookie cutter, but I walked out with a bag of goodies; cupcake liners, silicon molds, a few other cookie cutters and this cool silicon mat lined with inch marks around the perimeter of the mat.

I am always struggling, even with a ruler, to cut even, clean squares whenever making bars or brownies.  I am always disappointed with the presentation.

After today, this could be the solution I have been searching for.

I want to share my joy with you!  I am giving away one of these MATS to one lucky winner!

To enter the Mat Giveaway, simply leave a comment below (one entry per person, please) and I'll pick the winner from Random.  Also, for every comment I receive, I will donate $1.00 to Share our Strength, an organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger in America! Deadline for this giveaway is Sunday, April 25th at 9:00 p.m.

If your comment isn't linked to a blog where I can find you, please leave your email in the comment box.  This giveaway is for U.S. addresses only.

Thanks so much for entering and I look forward to reading all you have to say.

GIVEAWAY - An Urban Baker First!

Earth Day is April 22nd this year.  We kind of celebrate Earth Day, everyday in our house.

My kids lunch boxes are filled with reusable containers (no plastic baggies or pre-wrapped foods) and SIGG water bottles.  Levi, mostly takes hot food, in a thermos and when it's not a hot food day, I pack veggies and snacks in cute containers I get at the japanese markets.  I try and use my silpats when ever possible (however, I am addicted to pre-cut parchment sheets) and only use biodegradable cleaning supplies in our house.  I only use cloth napkins and re-usable cloth cleaning rags and rarely use paper towels.  I am trying to do my part.

We are also in the process of redoing our herb and vegetable garden.  I am excited to ultimately eat what we grow.  And I am guilty of dropping the ball on composting.  That's going to change!

Earth day is about embracing our environment, being conscious, and thankful for what we have.

Grateful Grafitti is a very cool company I discovered over a year ago.  Their tag line is: TAG THE TOWN POSITIVE.  Their whole concept is about tagging everything and anything (school lockers, cars, fridges) positive.

I have one on my car and get stopped frequently, asking me where I got my peace sign.  I now keep some in my car at all times.  I love spreading their message.

In the spirit of Earth Day I am giving away a Grateful Grafitti Peace Sign Magnet.  To enter the giveaway, just leave me a comment telling me what you and your loved ones can do to honor Earth Day!  I will keep the comments open until Thursday, April 15 th, 6 PM PST, and announce the winner (using a random number generator) on Friday, April 16th.  The giveaway is open to US residents only.  One entry per person!

Good Luck!
